My Big Career Update. And What's Next For Me?
Documenting My Journey Ep 11
Where do I even start?
I haven't documented my journey series in a while; I think it's been 10 months now since my last DMJ post.
In terms of career update, I left Paire a few months ago to build something on my own. It's been an amazing journey, both personally and professionally. I've always wanted to work for an in-house for a direct-to-consumer brand, and that experience opened my eyes to the behind-the-scenes aspects of growing a startup.
A lot has changed.
Looking back on my marketing career, it's been such a blessing. I've worked with several agencies, ranging from lead gen, info products and e-commerce. (And I fell in love with the game of e-commerce ever since).
My recent role has been an in-house growth marketing position, and it's been a fantastic journey with lots of ups and downs, but everything has been worth it. Kudos to the co-founders I've worked with, Rex and Nathan.
Paire continues to grow rapidly and I believe it will become a mammoth brand. (Come and check out their QV store - I think they are expanding at the moment).

Now, I'm on a journey to build something I wish I had two to three years ago when I was starting my e-commerce marketing career.
To be honest, the marketing subjects I studied in university weren't useful at all. They focused on newspapers and brochures. 🤢 When I had to present a marketing campaign around Instagram influencers and paid ads, the lecturer didn't seem to understand the concept of digital media.

I had to learn these digital marketing skills from scratch by learning online, attending events, and learning from peers, colleagues, and mentors. I believe that because of this mindset and attitude, I've been able to grow as a marketer.
Currently, I'm building an educational platform/product that will help the following:
Junior paid social specialists want to be promoted to a senior role as quickly as possible.
In-house junior marketers working for an e-commerce brand but lacking peer support, making them feel like they're working in silo. (I've been there, and it can be quite a lonely journey, but I've been grateful to have colleagues in the past with whom I can still bounce off ideas.)
E-commerce business owners who want to learn more about Facebook marketing and eventually hire an in-house marketer in the future.
I'll be sharing content around:
On how to make creatives that concert
Media buying (not the boosting post stuff that big companies like)
My experiences in building in-house marketing teams
SOPs that I have built during my career that have helped me immensely to grow e-commerce businesses
Branding, growth strategies, etc
Meanwhile, I will continue to offer as much value as I can moving forward
I will be offering complimentary consultations or audits of your ad account, as I believe that will have a direct impact rather than having information floating around.
That's more of an update from me.
Lastly, I've always been a coffeholic (drinking 2-3 lattes) but now…
Decaf is the best. Please don’t hate me.
